Discussion on Vietnam non-communicable diseases - Health sector cooperation between Vietnam and Denmark

On the morning of May 05, 2017, HUPH has held the Discussion on Vietnam non-communicable diseases - Health sector cooperation between Vietnam and Denmark. The discussion included a number of distinguished delegates and participants from Embassy of Denmark: Ms. Ulla Tørnæs, Danish Minister for Development Cooperation, Mr. Christian Brix Møller, Chargé d'affaires, Embassy of Denmark, and Mr. Omar Sherief Mohammad, Representative of Novo Nordisk, Denmark; Ministry of Health: Prof. Dr. Le Quang Cuong, Vice-Minister of Health, A/Prof. Luong Ngoc Khue, Director of Administration Department of Medical Services, Mr. Nguyen Manh Cuong, Deputy Director of Department of International Cooperation; and Hanoi University of Public Health:  Prof. Dr. Bui Thi Thu Ha, Rector of HUPH, and the university’s authorities.

Being as the first and only accredited school of public health in Vietnam, HUPH is a young, dynamic and ambitious university with a distinctive mission to improve public health education and research. In line with its mission, the discussion is a collaboration workshop of the HUPH and Embassy of Denmark to discuss the rapid rise in non-communicable diseases in Vietnam. Speaking at the ceremony, Vice-minister of Health, Prof. Dr. Le Quang Cuong, highlighted that the discussion was a great opportunity for all of the stakeholders, policy makers, government officials, managers, programmers, and researchers to discuss the solutions to deal with the non-communicable diseases.

In her opening speech, Ms. Ulla Tørnæs, Danish Minister for Development Cooperation, has appreciated the "long-standing relationship between Vietnam and Denmark since 1993. Denmark remains a committed and active partner in Vietnam’s development ". Ms. Ulla Tørnæs shared a new agreement on a cooperation project within health between Vietnamese and Danish Ministries of Health in 2016. The project addresses the rapid rise in chronic diseases in Vietnam, with a particular focus on diabetes.
