Career-oriented Meeting for Bachelor of Public Health in 2013.

On the morning of April 16th 2013, at the University of Public Health, the roundtable career-oriented meeting was held for Bachelor of Public Health in 2013. The meeting was organized to exchange and discuss career orientation for students major in public health and help employers better understand the Bachelor of Public Health with different subjects in HSPH. In addtion, the meeting also aim to share teaching experiences with other universities of Medicine and Pharmacy in implementing training programs.

Attending the meeting, there were representatives from the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Education and Training, government and non-government agencies in Vietnam, Institutes, the University of Medicine and Pharmacy, the Hanoi Department of Health, the Center for Communication - Health Education, Center for Preventive Medicine, Center for Health Protection and Environmental Labor, Department of Food Safety from provinces,  Administrative Board, lecturers and students of HSPH, etc. 

Speaking at the meeting, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Cong Khan, Director of  Science and Training Administration (Ministry of Health), emphasized that the work capacity of HSPH’s students is evaluated fairly good. However, the social demand of the public health workforce is high. Therefore, the schools of public health in general and HSPH in particular need to solve the question is how to train a workforce to meet the requirements of employers in quality and quantity. HSPH has launched the Bachelor of Public Health Program in 5 subjects shown that the correct direction and catch trends and demands of society.

Also at the meeting, employers from government agencies (central and local), non-governmental organizations in Vietnam have feedback to help HSPH adjusts the curriculum with oriented subjects close to practical needs. In addition, employers also discuss and answer questions for HSPH students about job opportunities after graduation.

The presentations at the meeting showed an overview of HSPH during the construction of training program framework for Bachelor of Public Health with 5 specialized subjects.

The deployment of the specialized training programs in this direction has been evaluated and good feedback from the units and agencies (which HSPH students came to practice) and the students. HSPH is the first school specialized in public health in Vietnam and has developed ​​many types of training from undergraduate (Bachelor of Public Health) and postgraduate (Specialty I, MSc and PhD of Public Health) in accordance with realistic needs in Vietnam.

Since 2002, HSPH started the enrollment of the 4-years Undegraduate Program of Public Health , formal system and now has seven graduate courses.

In 2007, the Ministry of Health is assigned HSPH to develop the trainning program of Bachelor of Public Health with oriented subjects.

HSPH refered to international training programs; analyzed the structure of preventive health system; evaluated training needs; organized the meetings to consult experts and  policy specialists and agree the name of the oriented subjects are: Epidemiology, Environmental Health - Careers, Communication - Health Education and Nutrition - Food Safety and offers the subject on Health Information Management.

In April 2012, the Ministry of Education and Training has approved undergraduate program of public health with different oriented subjects. Beginning in January 2012, HSPH implemented to train the Bachelor Public Health with oriented subjects and the first course will graduate in June 2013.
