Training for Youth Employment Skills Development
On April 21 -24, United Nations Volunteers (UNV) together with Hanoi School of Public Health conducted two training sessions under the Youth Employment Skills Development Project. This activity aims to support and provide the basic knowledge to students about career direction, CV, cover letter and interview skills before graduating. With the participation of experts from Vietnam UNV, United Nation Development Programme (UNDP), the Central Committee of Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union and Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), the program has contributed a large part to help students get a job in any environment. Dr. Bui Thi Thu Ha, Dean of HSPH also attended the training.

In the beginning of the training, Dr. Bui Thi Thu Ha, Dean of HSPH, shared some thoughts about the program. In the context of an unstable economy, the job selection is very pressured. Many students graduate each year, and they struggle in finding job. Among all the students, she hopes that HSPH students will stand out with their professionalism, commitments and drive to never stop learning from life. “These are the factors which help people to be successful in their career.“ Dean said.

In the first day of training, the students listened to experts from UNV and the HSPH present on career orientation, method and sources of information in order to choose a job by matching capabilities and personal preferences. Additionally, they shared communication skill best practices including: CV writing, writing tips to impress employers, and how to present yourself in the interview. These presentations brought a lot of useful and practical information to the youth.

The importance of soft skills in the learning process at the university, and especially upon graduation was highlighted very much. HSPH has also organized many sharing sessions, seminars and club activities to enhance these skills for students.
The students were playing games
One of the key features in this training was that the students had the opportunity to experience reality and not just listen to the experts. At the end of the first training session, the students were assigned "homework" to write a CV and job application for the position that they want to work or practice. Experts supporting program will receive the CV, job applications and edited directly for the students. At the second training session, the students will receive feedback and attended the practice interviews. The opportunity to discuss directly with the experts with direct recruiting experience will help students to be more prepared to apply and interview for jobs after graduation.
