1. PROGRAM OUTCOMES

1.1.Introduction

The Bachelor of Social Work Program trains social work graduates with good health and ethics, with basic knowledge of health, social work, and hospital social work to build rapport, collect information, analyze causes, identify priority issues for the clients, plan and implement social work activities to support the clients at their workplace; with continuous self-learning ability to contribute to ensure human’s rights and equality in the society. Besides the main opportunities to work in a hospital, the students would also be able to work in the labour, war invalids and social affairs sector; socio-political mass organizations; schools; research institutes; and in national and international non-governmental organizations.

1.2.Outcomes and objectives

The Program has a total of 9 outcomes and 31 objectives:

Outcome 1 (Knowledge). Describe basic health knowledge: statistics, basic computer knowledge; basic epidemiology; nutrition; rehabilitation; health education; health system organization and management.

1.1. Describing basic health knowledge to serve as a basis for learning, researching, and practicing social work, especially hospital social work.

1.2. Describing basic knowledge on statistics, epidemiology, health education, nutrition, rehabilitation, health system organization and management.

1.3. Summarizing using computers to access the Internet, look up information, present documents, analyze data using popular applications, faciliate access to information on learning, researching, and praciticing social work, especially hospital social work.

Outcome  2 (Knowledge). Interpret knowledge of socio-psychology, social security, and social policies.

            2.1. Interpreting knowledge of psychology and health psychology.

            2.2. Explaining knowledge of sociology, health sociology, anthropology, gender and development.

            2.3. Summarizing knowledge of social security in supporting different target populations

            2.4. Identifying appreciate social policies in supporting different target populationOutcome  3 (Knowledge). Interpret the basic knowledge of social work and social work approaches

            3.1. Summarizing basic social work knowledge such as: social work ethics and principles; applicable theories in social work; social work areas and organizing systems; social work policies in Vietnam.

            3.2. Interpreting social work approaches such as: social work with individuals and families, social work with groups, community development, psychological counseling, social work administration, social work communication.

Outcome  4 (Knowledge). Interpret the knowledge of hospital social work

4.1. Summarizing the social worker’s activities and roles in supporting patients, their family members, and health workers.

4.2. Identifying laws and policies related to hospital social work  

4.3. Describing social work interventions in supporting patients, their family members, and health workers.

Outcome  5 (Skills). Apply communication skills in supporting target populations, especially patients, their family members, and health workers.

5.1. Practicing communication skills (observation, listening, handling silence, feedback, empathy, questioning, self-disclosure) in supporting different target populations.

Outcome  6 (Skills). Apply coordinating and leadership skills in supporting target populations, especially patients, their family members, and health workers.

6.1. Implementing coordinating and leadership skills (providing information, mobilizing and coordinating resources, negotiation, coordinating, leadership, building relationships among team members, advocating) in supporting different target populations.

6.2. Implementing coordinating and leadership skills (providing information, mobilizing and coordinating resources, negotiation, coordinating, leadership, building relationships among team members, advocating) in supporting patients, their family members, and health workers.

Outcome  7 (Skills). Apply the knowledge and skills of social work in implementing social work activities in supporting patients, their family members, and health workers.

7.1. Implementing social work support, counseling, and problem-solving activities for patients and their family members in the examination and treatment process

7.2. Implementing legal education and communication activities for patients and their family members

7.3. Implementing fundraising activities for patients and their family members

7.4. Implementing support activities for health workers

7.5. Implementing training activities for the health workers and students interning at the site

7.6. Implementing the organization of social work collaborators in the hospital

7.7. Implementing charity and hospital social work activities in the community (if any)

7.8.  Performing research activities to describe, design, collect data and report hospital social work issues

7.9. Performing basic communication with foreigners in the hospitals, and basic computer skills at work

Outcome  8 (Attitude). Respect the philosophy and professional values of social work and hospital social work; listen to relevant stakeholders on the client’s needs and support measures

8.1. Respecting the philosophy and professional values of social work and hospital social work: the highest goal is for the benefits of the clients; accepting differences; identifying support measures based on client’s needs; engaging and empowering the clients; ensure confidentiality; and self awareness.

8.2. Listening to relevant stakeholders in identifying the client’s needs and support measures.

Outcome  9 (Attitude). Actively and continuously learn and develop professional expertise

9.1. Recognizing the significance of social work and hospital social work

9.2. Actively and continuously applying accumulated skills and knowledge to work and study, to update on the latest national and international social work skills and knowledge

9.3. Actively exchanging and sharing information and opinions during practice to improve work performance

9.4. Participating and contributing to the continuous professional development process at the workplace

2. JOB POSITIONS AFTER GRADUATION

- Social Work units at the central, provincial, and district-level hospitals

- Ministry of Health, Departments of Health, Health Care Centers

- The Ministry of Labour, Invalids, and Social Affairs ; Departments of Labour, Invalids, and Social Affairs ; labour, invalids, and social affairs units ; social agencies (Social Work Centers ; social protection centers ; drug rehabilitation centers …)

- Psychological counseling centers; public and private early intervention & education units.

- National and international non-governmental organizations in the field of social work and health care.

- Schools and socio-political mass organizations

- Social Work research institutes and centers

- Working as instructors of Social Work at colleges and universities
