Training course on Hospital Preparedness in Emergencies (HOPE)

In 5 days (3th – 7th December 2012), Hanoi School of Public Health (HSPH) in collaboration with United States Agency for International Development (USAID), Asian Disaster Preparedness Center (ADPC) and American Red Cross organized a traning course on Hospital Preparedness in Emergencies (HOPE) at HSPH. Participants from hospital at central and provincial levels and hospital in Hanoi took part in this course.

 

The aim of the HOPE training course was to enhance preparedness for hospitals in Asia. To accomplish this goal, the course gathered the health care and administrative leaders in disaster management in hospitals to discuss together on the principles of disaster management and to work together, implementing practical steps for their organization preparedness with disasters and incident.

Lecturers of the course were the experts on disaster prevention from ADPC, HSPH, ... They gave participants lessons with highly interactive. Participants would be asked to discuss issues related to their hospital environment and join group activities.

After the course, participants would be able to describe the relationship between hospital and disaster; apply a method of assessing the impact of various threats to the functional components and activities of a hospital. In addition, participants can apply the concepts to health care in situ for specific situations, preparing the outline of a plan to prepare for disaster in hospitals where they work and management of disaster preparedness.
