Strengthening capacity in public health training

On the morning of December 11th 2012, the workshop to summarize and introduce products of component of Medical Secondary Schools/Colleges under the project "Strengthening public health training capacity of Hanoi School of Public Health" was took place in HSPH.

Participants of the workshop included Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Cong Khan, director of Department of Science and Training (Ministry of Health); Ms Nguyen Huu Hoai Van - representing the Embassy of Kingdom of the Netherlands in Vietnam, Prof. Dr. Le Vu Anh – Dean of HSPH; representatives of the Faculties/Departments of HSPH, representatives of Medical Secondary Schools/Colleges of project provinces: Thai Binh, Quang Ninh, Hoa Binh, Bac Giang, Khanh Hoa, Lam Dong, Dong Thap and others of nearly 40 secondary Medical - Pharmaceutical Secondary Schools /Colleges across the country.

The workshop was held with the aim of summarizing the results of component of Medical Secondary Schools and Medical Colleges under the project "Strengthening public health training capacity of Hanoi School of Public Health" with the support of Kingdom of the Netherlands. Besides, the workshop introduced and provided information on the applicability of project products which supported Medical Secondary Schools and Medical Colleges in teaching and learning modules related to Community Health and Public Health in secondary level educational programme of the Health Sector as well as share experiences in the implementation, application programs and curriculums.

In his opening speech at the workshop, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Cong Khan, director of Department of Science and Training (Ministry of Health) appreciated the efforts of HSPH so far in implementing to apply project products supported Medical Secondary Schools and Medical Colleges while teaching and learning modules related to Community Health and Public Health in secondary level educational programme of the Health Sector.

 

During the period of implementation 2006-2012, the project "Strengthening public health training capacity of Hanoi School of Public Health" – component of Medical Secondary Schools and Medical Colleges have implemented many outstanding activities as development of two booklets: (materials constructed in the method of self-directed learning - SDL) Teacher’s Guide on teaching the "Health Organization and Management” and Teacher’s Guide on teaching  "Communication Skills and Health Education". The books have effectively supported Medical Secondary Schools and Medical Colleges during teaching and learning modules related to Community Health and Public Health in secondary level educational programme of the Health Sector. Two books were approved by the Ministry of Health for use as common manuals for Medical Secondary Schools/Colleges nationally and issued by Medical Publishing House.

Other products of project such as video used to illustrate lectures and reference materials for teaching and learning on "Health Organization and Management", "Communication Skills and Health Education", "Community Health" and "community practice" including 2 video clips composed situations; "communication skills with colleagues" in the subject "Health Management and  Organization", 5 CDs recorded some model lecturer applying active teaching methods in assistant doctor training program were also introduced in this workshop.

At the workshop, delegates also heard the reports of activity results of the component of Medical Secondary Schools and Medical Colleges in HSPH project implemented in the period of 2006-2012 and the speeches sharing experiences in pilot implementing and applying the module "community practice" in assistant doctor training program of the Medical Colleges of Thai Binh, Bac Giang and Dong Thap.
